Catchmemeow is a free seek-and-find game made for kids and families. We care a lot about privacy — especially children’s privacy. This page explains, in plain language, what does and doesn’t happen with information when you use the site at catchmemeow.com.
The short version
We don’t ask you to make an account, and we don’t try to collect personal information from children. The game runs in your browser. We show ads through Google on our content pages, and those ads are set to non-personalized. We also use Google Analytics to understand basic site traffic and page performance. If you choose to post a score to the leaderboard, it shows only your initials, your score and a rough “where in the world” — nothing that identifies you. If a grown-up chooses to send us a message through the contact form, we use it only to reply.
Children’s privacy (COPPA)
This site is directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. We do not require names, sign-ups, or logins to play. Any advertising shown is treated as child-directed and non-personalized, meaning it is not based on a profile of the user. If you believe a child has provided us personal information and you would like it removed, please contact us and we will delete it.
Advertising
We use Google AdSense to display ads on our content pages, which helps keep the game free. Because the site is for children, our ads are configured as child-directed (Google’s “child-directed treatment”) and non-personalized — they are never based on a profile of you or your child. Google may use cookies or similar technologies to limit how often an ad is shown, to render ads, and to detect and prevent fraud and abuse. You can read about how Google uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. The game screen itself shows no ads.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand basic site traffic, such as which pages are visited and whether pages load correctly. Analytics is configured without sending names, email addresses, account IDs, or other personal information from Catchmemeow. Google may use cookies or similar technologies to provide this service, and IP anonymization is enabled where supported.
Cookies & local storage
The game stores a little information in your browser (for example, which level you’ve reached, your sound setting, and which treasures you’ve found) so it remembers your progress on your device. This stays on your device. Google’s advertising and analytics services may set their own cookies as described above.
The leaderboard (the Scores page)
Posting a score to the leaderboard is completely optional — the game is exactly as fun without it. If you do tap “Submit my score,” here is everything that gets stored (on our hosting provider, Netlify):
- Your initials — up to 3 letters that you type in (please don’t use a full name).
- Your score — the points you’ve earned in the game.
- An approximate country or region — worked out by our host from the internet connection, so the board can show a little flag. The connection’s IP address itself is not stored, and you can’t type in a location.
That’s the whole list — no names, no emails, no accounts. Scores appear publicly on the Scores page, so anyone who visits can see the initials, score and flag. Changed your mind? Tap “Remove my score” on the same device you posted from and it’s gone right away. If you’ve switched devices or cleared your browser, just contact us and we’ll happily remove it for you.
The contact form
If you choose to use the contact form, the name, email, and message you enter are sent to us (through our hosting provider, Netlify) so we can reply. We don’t sell or share this information, and we ask that the form be used by grown-ups. Your email address is never displayed publicly on the site.
Who we share information with
We use these service providers to run the site: Netlify (website hosting, the contact form and the leaderboard), Google AdSense (advertising, configured as child-directed and non-personalized), and Google Analytics (basic site traffic and performance reporting). Netlify, like most hosts, also collects some basic, anonymous performance and traffic telemetry (things like page-load times and visit counts) that helps keep the site fast and healthy — it isn’t tied to who you are. We don’t sell your information to anyone.
Changes to this policy
If we update this policy, we’ll change the “Last updated” date above.
